Tips for pacing your half marathon
- Start controlled. Run the first 2–3 miles at or slightly slower than goal pace. You have plenty of time to make up a few seconds.
- Use the halfway split. For an even race, you should pass the 6.55-mile mark at about half your goal time. The halfway column shows that target.
- Plan your fueling. Many runners take a gel or sports drink around 45–60 minutes. Practice it in training so race day holds no surprises.
- Aim for a negative split. Running the second half slightly faster than the first is the most reliable way to a personal best.
